project:

rehabilitation of a 1920's single family house, applying several strategies from sustainable construction. apart from the concern of restoring a more tradicional image and a correct integration in the surroundings, through the use of traditional elements, including the wooden buildings (turret and the body of the kitchen).
the intervention has sought to adress various environmental concerns, inclunding a better use of energy and water resources. regional materials were used in this construction, such as japanese cedar, for the walls and beams (produced on the island of faial), and hard wood floors of black acacia (produced on the island of são miguel). whenever possible paints and varnishes of water composition were used, rather than synthetics, thereby reducing the environmental impact.
